Wizkid Cancels ‘Morayo’ Tour Weeks Before Launch, Leaving Fans Disappointed Across Continents

On May 7th, 2025 news broke out that, Nigerian music superstar Wizkid had abruptly cancelled his highly anticipated Morayo North American tour just weeks before its scheduled launch, leaving fans across continents disappointed and without answers. The tour named in honour of his late mother, Jane Morayo Balogun was set to be a deeply emotional and celebratory chapter in Wizkid’s global career, with high-profile stops at venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York, Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Accor Arena in Paris and State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Despite heavy promotion, several North American dates were quietly removed from ticketing platforms less than a month before the tour was due to begin. Now, 3 weeks later, Wizkid and his team have remained completely silent, issuing no official statement , a move that has only deepened confusion and frustration among his global fanbase.

Industry sources suggest that low ticket sales were the the reason behind the sudden cancellations. One tour promoter familiar with the planning remarked, “The hype was there online, but the actual sales didn’t match it. In several cities, fewer than a third of the tickets were sold. That’s not sustainable for a tour of this scale.”

At first, some fans speculated that the decision might be linked to Wizkid’s grief following the passing of his mother in August 2024, a theory that seemed to be reinforced by a now-deleted post from his close associate Godson, who hinted that the artist was still emotionally affected. However, the ongoing silence and lack of clarity have shifted focus toward more practical concerns, including weak ticket demand and logistical challenges.

What has made the situation even more disappointing is the extent of the cancellations beyond North America. The European leg of the Morayo tour ; which included scheduled performances in France, Germany, and the Netherlands has also been called off. These shows, once advertised as part of his 2025 international calendar, have quietly disappeared from ticketing platforms without any explanation, leading to speculation that the entire tour has been shelved.

The impact is particularly severe in Canada, which has repeatedly borne the brunt of Wizkid’s tour cancellations. Since 2021, the Afrobeats star has canceled or indefinitely postponed at least seven shows in the country, including events in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Edmonton. This recurring pattern has left many Canadian fans feeling overlooked and disrespected.

“I’m never getting a ticket for him again” one frustrated fan tweeted. “He has cancelled two or three times it is a repeated pattern.”

Fans who were eager to experience the Morayo album — his critically acclaimed sixth studio project — in a live setting have been left disheartened. Released in November 2024, the album featured collaborations with Asake, Brent Faiyaz, and Jazmine Sullivan, and was widely praised for its emotional depth and tribute to his mother.

“It’s one thing to cancel,” a fan wrote on Instagram. “But to go radio silent? That’s not how you treat the people who’ve supported you from day one.”

With both the North American and European legs of the tour now scrapped, and no indication of rescheduling, the lack of communication has arguably done more harm than the cancellations themselves. Fans across Canada, Europe, and beyond are now questioning whether Wizkid can be relied upon to fulfill his commitments on future tours.

As of now, the silence continues and so does the damage to Wizkid’s standing as a trusted and consistent live performer. Whether the decision stemmed from grief, mismanagement, or financial setbacks, one thing is clear: this canceled tour has left fans feeling cold, and the fallout may linger far beyond 2025.
